We’re Recruiting For Police Staff Investigators
These roles sit within one of London’s 20 Major Investigation Teams (MITs), at the heart of the Met’s response to the most serious and complex crimes. MITs lead investigations into homicides and, where required, other serious criminality and high-risk missing person cases, working at pace to deliver justice and protect the public.
As part of an MIT, you’ll play a key role in progressing major investigations under the direction of experienced Senior Investigating Officers (SIOs). You’ll work alongside Police Staff Investigators (PIP Level 2) and Detective Constables, within a structured team led by a Detective Chief Inspector and supported by Detective Inspectors and Detective Sergeants. Based at one of four Specialist Crime hubs, your work may take you anywhere across London as investigations develop.
This is a challenging, fast-moving, and highly rewarding operational role. You’ll be trusted to carry out a broad range of investigative activity, manage evidence and information to the highest professional standards, and contribute directly to cases as they move through the criminal justice system. As a Police Staff Investigator (PSI) at PIP level 1, You will work with police staff investigators (at PIP level 2) and Detective Constables. MITs are led by a DCI supported by Detective Inspectors and Detective Sergeants. The role of Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) will be performed by the DCI or DI.

As a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO), the role holder will lead a MIT. The role holder will direct and manage the investigative response and all resources associated with the investigation. This will involve developing and implementing strategies, procedures and systems that underpin the investigation and ensuring the management and assessment of threat, risk and harm.
